Does LiveVault protect Exchange mailboxes?

LiveVault works exceptionally well with Exchange's native object and mailbox recovery that allows customers to recover from most object losses. In the case that a recovery is not possible using this functionality, LiveVault allows customers to restore historic copies of their database and use Microsoft or 3rd party tools (such as Ontrack's Power Controls) to recover specific objects.

This is a much more reliable approach than the “MAPI” or “Brick Level” backups that other backup software uses. Microsoft's utility Exmerge can also be used to perform “brick level” backups of the information stores if desired. In most cases, customers find that Exchange native tools negate the need to do this however. And, Microsoft, in more recent releases of Exchange (2000 and 2003) has addressed most of the reasons that a customer must elect to do brick level backup (such as Exmerge, object and mailbox retention and recovery storage groups in e2k3).

For customers using the TurboRestore appliance, the time required to restore a specific information store is significantly reduced. Additionally, LiveVault allows simple and secure ability to restore data directly to a different server. So, a customer could easily (through a web UI) and very quickly, restore an information store from a specific point in time to a network location. Once there, they could extract the specific information needed (using Microsoft or 3rd party tools).
